The Picota in the Plaza of Almorox Almorox in ToledoEnglish version

History

Various historians, such as P. Mariana; Silva;  Jeronimo López de Ayala " Duke of Cedillo";  Pedro Rojas "Duke of Mora" have stated that the village of Almorox pre- dates the Roman occupation of Spain. The historian Rodrigo Méndez Silva, in his book titled Población General de Espańa, edited in 1675 stated that the town of Almorox was one league from Escalona, situated in wild countryside, fertile for wine grapes, olive trees and fruit, with three hundred inhabitants, a parish, six chapels. a Jewish settlement of the Nabucodonosor, and dominated by Saracens.

Around the village there are burial sites, which are believed to be of Celtic origin.

This village had an important involvement in the campaign against the Moors and, in particular in the conquest of Toledo by  Alfonso VI.
