Hola, amigos!

I would like to sincerely welcome you to our web page. We decided to design this web to develop the noble art of chess in our part of Spain and, above all, to exchange ideas and experiences with other enthusiasts and clubs around the world.

The Spanish version is more detailed, as it provides information for prospective members, so why not practice your Spanish? In any case, please don't hesitate to contact us for more information in English.

I hope that you enjoy your visit to our site and that you will return many times. In particular, if you live outside Spain you can have free membership of our club, just go to the visitors book and enroll.

We are situated in one of the most attractive areas in central Spain (with great wine and cold beer!) and we would welcome your visit at any time.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the interest in our village and, in particular, our chess club. Our municipality is fully supportive of the club and we hope that this web site will inspire you to contact us and, even better, to visit our village.

History of our club

 The club was created to respond to the ever increasing interest in chess that had grown within our village. Much of the inspiration for this was due to two important motives.
  • The recognition of the educational authorities of the important role that chess could play in the intellectual development of children
  • The positive support of the club president and the A.M.P.A. (College Parent Association) who wished to initiate chess classes in the village schools.

All of this created an ideal environment to initiate our club in Almorox. So, full of enthusiasm and many ideas, we held our founding meeting on the 5th.August, 1998. The founding members were:

  • Jesús Rodríguez Tosar
  • Ángel Luis Escudero Silván
  • Carmelo Montero Sen
  • José Parro
  • Fernando Cortés Rico

We are now a fully legal entity and we are federated to our provincial and national chess associations in Spain. Our municipality provided us with excellent facilities and e have not looked back since. Our club continues to grow and we have enjoyed spectacular success in our tournament results.

Where are we? 

Almorox is a village in the Province of Toledo, which is part of the region of Castilla La Mancha. We are around 60 miles from Madrid, and half way between the wonderful medieval cities of Avila and Toledo. This area of Spain is full of pine forests, wine fields, olive groves and is deeply rooted in a history spanning over 2000 years. We are not difficult to find and you could have a great time on your way. Hope to see you.
